NASA's big News!

After the COVID-19 delay, the Delta-X field campaign finally begins! In short multiple teams head out to study the land, water, and air to collect data of the gain and loss in the Mississippi River Delta because of sea level rises.  Stay tuned to discover what they find.

A NASA climate study has confirmed what many people have predicted: that we (humans) are traping more energy from the sun than that is going back into space, this is the slow warming of our planet. The sun sends radiative light to Earth, some of this energy is absorbed and some of it is bounces back into space, but now more energy is being absorbed and less is being sent back into space! Eventually all of this energy gets sent back to space but some of it gets reabsorbed in clouds and such. This reabsorbed energy may head back to Earth once more, warming the planet even more! And we are causing this to happen, from pollution to overpopulation!

NASA is also creating a new satellite called the NISAR, this will spot potential natural threats and help researchers measure how melting ice will effect the sea level rise!

That is all for this month, please help the planet, and stay safe! Wear a mask, social distance, and stay home.

The E.U makes big changes!

The E.U used less fossil fuels than renewable energy last year (2020)! This is a big breakthrough in stopping climate change. This group is made up of 27 countries in Europe. The E.U produced 38% renewable energy, 37% fossil fuels, with wind generation increasing by 9% and solar by 15%. This tied in with US' choice to re-join the Paris Agreement, shows a very promising future for renewable resources, and this generation.

But it is not all good news. Even though the E.U has increased renewable energy, they are going at a very slow pace to reach their goal of 55% renewable energy by 2030. They will need to work extra hard to reach that goal.

What will 2021 hold?

Last year was CRAZY! The US was in flames (quit literally), the hurricane season was horrible, and there was a global pandemic (which we are still in, so 6 feet apart everyone!). But 2 out of these 3 things that have be listed have to do with the climate. Luckily with a new president in America, things might change for the good. President Joe Biden has already started to change things for the better. He is doing the paperwork to rejoin the Paris Agreement! He even cut the keystone oil pipeline. Joe Biden marks a promising future for climate change. He has brought much hope to many people in the world! Speaking of Presidents, climate change activist, Greta Thunberg, tweeted the following about Trump, 'He seems like a very happy old man looking forward to a very bright and wonderful future! So nice to see!' These sarcastic sentences left many laughing until they cried!

Now, the more disheartening news. Co2 levels have risen by 100ppm in the last 60 years, 100 times faster than natural rates! In Europe it was also the hottest year EVER, which is very scary. New records are being made every year because of climate change. Also, 12 million hectares of forest have been cleared in the last 5 years! That's 46, 000 square miles! Even more frightening, caused by the crazy heat waves in Siberia, the usual Arctic freeze was delayed by 2 whole months!
